Espial formed in 1997 to serve the internet appliance market. It successfully established market leadership in the consumer electronics market segment working with global brands in sectors such as automotive – Audi, BMW, and Porsche – and in TV manufacturing – Sony, Philip, Hitachi, Toshiba, Sharp, and Samsung. In 2001, Espial broadened its target market to include hospitality and secured a leadership position with customers such as LodgeNet & OnCommand. In 2003, Espial expanded its market focus and software capabilities to address the IPTV market. It now has IPTV deployments with dozens of pay-TV operators across Asia, Europe, and North America. In 2008, Espial acquired Kasenna to extend its TV Software portfolio with an industry leading video-on-demand solution. Jaison Dolvane – President and CEO
As president of Espial, Jaison drives strategic positioning and serves as the corporate visionary. He leads the strategic business and marketing vision for Espial and directs overall business and partner development.
Kumanan Yogaratnam – Chief Technology Officer
In his role as CTO, Kumanan sets corporate technology direction and guides industry standards compliance. He influences the direction of select standards bodies by participating in many key industry standards groups.
Carl Smith – Chief Financial Officer
Carl, a Chartered Accountant, has more than 15 years experience in finance and executive leadership positions in public and private high technology companies. Most recently, he held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Nuvo Network Management, a public company traded on the TSX Venture that was acquired by a leading US based software company. Prior to Nuvo, Mr. Smith served as CFO of OZ Optics and held senior finance roles at JetForm Corporation, a TSX and NASDAQ listed software company.
Jim Irwin – VP Engineering
Jim joined Bell-Northern Research/Nortel Networks in 1986 and held various R&D Leadership positions during his 19 year career with the company. He joined Espial in 2006 bringing his depth of experience spearheading the development of products for the Telecommunications market. Jim now leads Espial’s Pay TV Operator Product engineering organization, with delivery and support teams located in Canada, England and the USA.
Nemer D. Abourizk – General Counsel
In his role as General Counsel, Nemer directs Espial’s legal activities in support of the company’s business, including sales and licensing, HR and IP management. Nemer serves as General Counsel for an evolving portfolio of mid-sized Ottawa technology corporations and was selected as a 2006 Forty Under 40 award recipient by the Ottawa Business Journal.
