Technology Overview

Espial's browser product is purpose-built for resource-constrained embedded designs. Espial software enables OEMs to help extend device capability for sharing of media and information across other home and mobile network devices independent of the protocol/transport (802.11, uPnP, etc.). The solution is modular and extensible to allow integration of new technology as the home network opportunities evolve. Espial's proven, modular architecture reduces time to market while enabling media support and applications to be provisioned and updated on demand. By leveraging standards-based frameworks such as OSGi and content support (HTML/Java/JavaScript), it enables inexpensive in-house or third party development of applications. The device and application management module ensures that services and resources are managed to maximize software re-use and reliability. The entire design is built for resource-constrained embedded designs to minimize costs.

Application Software - architected for quick and easy UI design, Espial software enables a full range of applications. This includes on-screen display for menu screens, settings, status indicators, electronic program guides, broadcast and streamed video content, Video On Demand, HTML portal, and photo viewers.

User Interface Toolkit - provides user interface components extending the customizable look and feel to all applications including those developed by third parties and provisioned dynamically to the home media center

Internet on TV Web browser - faithful and accurate rendering of Web and walled garden content with plug-in support for essentials like Macromedia Flash. The Espial browser is built for TV with features like remote control interaction of content and unique TV formatting and capabilities.
