Category: Our Culture

As we embark on another section of our blog series, we are looking to switch things up a little. I wanted to test the women behind our operations (even though I lied in my form) to see if they knew anything about the origins of International Women’s Day. Also, since they are always teaching us something new, I wanted them to share with us their favorite moments in women’s history.

Here is what they had to say:

1. Kim Pilon, Human Resources Manager (3.5 years at Espial)

When was the first international women’s day gathering? (if you Googled it – please mention it, it isn’t a quiz)

Feb 28, 1909 – googled it!

Do you believe it is important to celebrate women’s day every year? If yes, why?

Yes – we run the world!  No, seriously, if we did, it would be a better place.

What is your favorite female empowerment song?

Run the World – Beyonce

Who is your #1 female role model?

So many – Oprah, Michelle Obama

Can you share with us an interesting fact in women’s history?

Margaret Hamilton coined the phrase Software Engineering to give the discipline legitimacy.

2. Connie Demers, Global Payroll Manager (18 years at Espial)

1909 in NY – googled it!

Do you believe it is important to celebrate women’s day every year? If yes, why?

Thank you, Kim and Connie, for participating in our Women at Espial campaign. Now I know to play Run the World and Respect to get you up and dancing at our next office party. 😊 Happy International Women’s Day to these incredible women who keep us in check every single day – we appreciate your work.
