Transforming the future of video now

One passion: delivering fast, seamless user experiences

Overview

Company overview

With Espial, video service providers create responsive and engaging subscriber viewing experiences incorporating powerful content discovery and intuitive navigation. Service providers achieve ‘Web-speed’ innovation with Espial’s flexible, open, cloud software leveraging RDK and HTML5 technologies. This provides competitive advantage through an immersive and personalized user experience, seamlessly blending advanced TV services with OTT content. With customers spanning six continents, Espial is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, with R&D centers in Seattle, Montreal, Silicon Valley, Cambridge, and Lisbon, and with sales offices in North America, Europe and Asia.

Where we started

Starting in 1997, Espial embraced the early days of the Internet with an ambition to build the best Web experiences on Internet devices. Over a few short years, we achieved over 100 design wins across a wide range of devices including automobiles, early tablets and digital TVs.

Where we’ve been

Bolstered by these wins and using hard won user experience expertise, Espial jumped into the rapidly growing IPTV market. Beginning in hospitality, our software powered a rich on-demand experience for over 2 million hotel rooms in North America alone. We were among the first to deliver a software platform enabling Telco operators to offer PayTV services, and grew a customer base across dozens of operators in North America, Europe and Asia including Com Hem, Vodafone, Tele2, KBRO, and SFR. With a breakthrough HTML5 engine, Espial brought the latest Web experiences into living rooms across the world, winning deals with major brands including Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi, Panasonic and many others.

Where we are

Through careful strategy – including investments and acquisitions – Espial has extended this IPTV success into creating leading cable and hosted cloud user experience solutions. The cable focus culminated with major wins with NOS and TeleColumbus, using open standards including RDK and HTML5 with the first 4K RDK solutions in Europe and immersive HTML5 experiences. Through the acquisition of the Whole Home Solution from ARRIS, rebranded as Elevate, Espial has built a strong cloud capability. With over 40 customers, this platform is providing the next wave of growth for Espial. We continue to expand our customer reach to bring immersive experiences to more and more viewers every day.

Where we’re going

In our labs, we are exploring the next wave of innovations that will redefine the video experience for subscribers. Espial is working together with customers and partners on augmented and virtual reality solutions, 4K and 8K, HDR and many other innovations. Our mission – to deliver an exceptional user experience to video service providers, large and small all over the world – continues to drive us forward and we’ve only just begun to make our impact.
