Director, President and Chief Executive Officer
Jaison Dolvane is the CEO of Espial. Jaison co-founded Espial in 1997, and has led the company from a start-up to a global business, has raised over $100 million of financing, transitioned Espial into new markets, drove M&A transactions and led Espial to a successful Initial Public Offering in 2007. Jaison has also led the acquisition and structuring of customer and partner deals with some of the world’s largest consumer electronics, service providers and network vendors. Prior to Espial, Jaison held various roles at Nortel, Bell Northern Research, Entrust Technologies and Corel. Jaison actively speaks and participates at industry events and panels for the broadcast, Pay TV and Smart TV industries. Director, Chief Technology Officer
Kumanan Yogaratnam is the CTO of Espial. Kumanan co-founded Espial in 1997 and has been the Chief Architect and technology visionary for the broad range of Espial products. Kumanan has led the creation and delivery of Espial’s world leading, carrier grade and highly scalable client and server products for the Pay TV and Smart TV markets. Kumanan has been at the front of major industry changes actively participating in setting standards for Java & HTML5 in set-top boxes and smartphones (the basis for Android today), Digital Video Broadcast systems, Internet Protocol TV or IPTV, and HTML5 Web standards. Recently, Kumanan has also been instrumental in re-defining an IP TV architecture and Espial product suite for high performance cloud-based user experiences using HTML5 on set-top boxes, smart-phones and tablets. This cloud centric service vision for Pay TV operators is critical to enable long term service provider sustainability. Kumanan leads the Espial technology, product direction and participation and contributions to the Comcast RDK initiative, an open source set-top box operating system being adopted by major cable and telecom service providers globally. Kumanan holds a Masters & Bachelor of Computer Science from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.
Vice President of Worldwide Engineering and Operations
Yvonne Holland heads up Worldwide Operations and Engineering at Espial, with responsibilities that include development and maintenance of all Espial products. Yvonne comes to Espial with over 18 years of experience in the telecommunications and broadcast industries. Prior to joining Espial, Yvonne was CIO and SVP Product Development at Ross Video Ltd., where she led the global development teams, managed MIS, and was responsible for advancing infrastructure and processes to support the company’s growth. She also played a key role in the successful integration of eight acquisitions.
Earlier roles have included program management at JDS Uniphase and General Management at Emery Worldwide. She holds a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Ottawa.
Chief Financial Officer
Carl Smith joined Espial as Chief Financial Officer on March 24, 2008. Mr. Smith is a Chartered Accountant, has more than 18 years experience in finance and executive leadership positions in public and private high technology companies. Most recently, from 2003 to March 2008 he held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Nuvo Network Management, a public company traded on the TSXV that was acquired by a leading US based software company. Prior to Nuvo, Mr. Smith served as CFO of OZ Optics and held senior finance roles at JetForm Corporation. Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Windsor.
VP of International Sales
Peter Szalay is Espial’s VP of Sales. He brings over 25 years of sales and business development experience in the telecommunications and semiconductor industries. Prior to Espial, he held positions at SupportSoft as VP of business development expanding its remote management solution business in the telecom market, CEO of Aramova where he redefined its focus around fixed mobile convergence, and Co-founded Alopa as VP of Sales and Business Development where he defined the companies strategy and evangelized its Packet-Cable provisioning offering in the cable market. Peter has held several senior sales positions in the semiconductor industry at companies such as Ambit, Summit Design, and Synopsys. He holds a bachelor degree of engineering from UCLA, masters degree of engineering from USC, and post graduate of business and administration from Harvard.
VP of Professional Services
Junaid Muzaffar leads the Espial Elite Professional Services group as VP of Professional Services. In his more than a decade of experience in the Telecom and Cable industries, Muzaffar has developed and managed large professional services organizations. With a key focus on customer satisfaction, Muzaffar has pioneered processes and structures that have enabled on-schedule and high quality deployments of end-user operator and user experience solutions that have serviced millions of subscribers globally. Prior to joining Espial, Muzaffar directed professional services at Redknee where he developed and managed leadership of professional services teams in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. He holds a Bachelors of Engineering and Business from McMasters University.
VP of Product Management
Michael McCluskey is Espial’s VP of Product Management and drives the delivery of Espial solutions, manages product strategy, and leads strategic customer engagements. Mick brings with him over twenty-five years of experience in the software and communications industries with a track record of managing and delivering products through all stages of their lifecycle while prioritising customer experience. Prior to joining Espial, Michael held leadership positions at BTI Systems and Nortel. Mick always focuses on customer value and has been key to driving the Espial’s strategic focus on products and solutions which offer flexible and agile next generation solutions for operators. Mick holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Queen’s University Belfast, a Masters of Science, Information Technology, from University of Ulster and an MBA from University of Ulster.
Dilshan De Silva
VP Engineering, Solutions & Project Delivery
Dilshan De Silva is Espial’s VP of Engineering – G4 Solution. He has previously held positions at Corel and Entrust, at the former he worked on the development team for Corel Draw and Corel Office for Java and at Entrust he developed software on PKI security tools. In 1998 he joined Espial and he has worked on a variety of projects in different engineering management roles. He acted as Director of Engineering on Espial’s embedded software products where he helped deploy some of the company’s earliest customers like KPN, OnCommand, LodgeNet, Nokia-Siemens, Belgacom, and NTT Communications (Japan). From 2007 to 2014 his focus turned to leading engineering for the next-gen HTML5 WebKit Browser for Consumer Electronics, deploying in Hitachi, Sharp, Toshiba and Sony Smart TVs. Most recently he has worked on Espial’s HTML5 UX and now manages all the company’s engineering capacity including RDK, Middleware, Browser and UX. He graduated from Carleton with a Bachelor of Computer Science.
Director of Marketing
Kirk Edwardson is Espial’s Director of Marketing. He is a seasoned software marketing professional with experience driving demand and building awareness for solutions in consumer, small business, enterprise and telecommunications segments. He has worked at Corel, Nortel, Bell Canada and Espial and has an academic background in economics and international affairs from Carleton University.
VP Sales, North America
Matt James is Espial’s Vice President of Sales, North America. He is a seasoned business leader with notable successes in driving sales, market development and marketing organizations in the Pay-TV industry. Prior to Espial, Mr. James was Senior Vice President of North American Sales at TiVo and held a series of sales leadership roles at Alcatel-Lucent. He has an exceptional background in building successful teams and businesses in the North American IP Video marketplace.
